Theme 2: Identify the child’s anxiety and calm yourself

How can you identify your child’s anxiety

Anxiety and fear are feelings relating to an experienced threat.

Anxiety manifests in different ways at different ages.

The anxiety can affect the child’s

behaviour

feelings in the body

thoughts

The child can be worried, withdrawn, tearful, restless, irritable, cranky or angry.

Different kinds of aches and pains, such as headaches or stomach ache, nausea, dizziness, sweating, trembling, heart palpitations or difficulties breathing.

Negative thoughts and catastrophic thinking: “I won’t make it, I’ll be left alone, my family will die, the world will end”.

We all react differently.
