Theme 3: Listen to and calm down your child

Listen to and calm down your child

Create a calm environment without too many stimuli. Limit media access for yourself and your child. Get information from reliable sources. Create a calm environment for discussion.

Talk to your child about the things they're worried about. Ask open-ended questions. “What are you wondering about the most? What scares you the most? What is your worst fear?”

Repeat what the child says. By repeating your child’s words you signal to them that you've listened.

Give age-appropriate information.
